As a part of outreach and volunteering activities, first year CDT student Oscar Williams has helped to organise and participate in outreach events through the PhD student-led society UCell. UCell is a society concerned with increasing public knowledge about fuel cells and hydrogen energy, at the same time as inspiring children and young adults to continue with STEM subjects. Events have included running stalls at Teen Tech 2015 and an open day at Elutec Design College in Dagenham, a partner establishment of UCL. Additionally, Oscar has also volunteered as an online mentor for The Brightside Trust, giving advice to Year 12 students that are geographically less likely to attend university. This includes help and advice on all matters regarding university life, academia and specifically on how to apply to university. This was through the ARCC (Access for Rural and Coastal Communities) scheme
