Biography

Research Project: Superinsulators for Energy Storage.

Supervisors: Dr. John Labram (UCL), Professor Martyn McLachlan (ICL)

Alessandro graduated from Imperial College London with an MSci in Chemistry with Molecular Physics in 2023. His final research project focused on developing a molecular mechanics computational method to predict and investigate the stacking configuration stability of metal phthalocyanines.

His PhD project is focused on the study and exploitation of superinsulators for energy storage, particularly to generate knowledge on the relationship between temperature, breakdown field strength, and storage density on capacitors which use a superinsulator as the medium between the plates.

Being part of the CDT-ACM was an all-round fantastic experience; I not only received great training in a range of advanced characterisation techniques, but I also made strong links with industry and strong bonds with my cohort which have both led to fruitful collaborations.
