Research Project: Ion implantation into semiconductors: studying a new manufacturing technique.
Supervisors: Dr. Carla Pérez Martínez (UCL), Prof. Baptiste Gault (ICL), Prof. Finn Giuliani (ICL)

Shaun completed his MSci in Theoretical Physics at UCL in 2023. His final year project used computer simulations to optimise an Einzel lens to focus the beam emitted from an ionic liquid ion source. Ionic liquids are molten salts at room temperature, from which ions can be evaporated. Shaun’s current PhD project investigates a novel manufacturing technique, utilising atom probe tomography to study the implantation of ions from ionic liquids into semiconductors.

Studying my PhD as part of the ACM CDT not only provided me with valuable training courses and workshops on characterisation techniques, but also regular academic seminars, team activities, and discussions to help expand my interests, both inside and outside of research.
